Video of the Lecture on Mono-ha Held at the Bourse de Commerce, Paris
In conjunction with the Minimal exhibition, the Bourse de Commerce hosted a lecture on Mono-ha, presented by Nicolas-Xavier Ferrand, Research Fellow at the Pinault Collection.
Born in the tumult of 1968 in Tokyo, Mono-ha emerged within Tama Art University and Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where young artists such as Nobuo Sekine, Kishio Suga, Lee Ufan, and Jiro Takamatsu began practicing a radical art form centered on matter, space, relationships, and the perception of reality, seeking to establish a contemporary aesthetic free from Western influence.
Nicolas-Xavier Ferrand’s lecture outlines the socio-political circumstances that gave rise to this movement, and examines the different perspectives among each of the artists.
