Kishio Suga solo exhibition at Mendes Wood DM, Brussels

Taking place from June 9 to July 30, 2022, this is Suga's second solo exhibition at Mendes Wood DM’s gallery in Brussels, following his debut at their Brussels space in 2017 and a solo exhibition at their São Paulo gallery in 2018.

This exhibition focuses on assemblages made between the 1970s and the 1990s, charting the development of the artist’s practice over the crucial first three decades of his career. Several wall-mounted works on paper from the 1970s and 1980s are also presented at the gallery in dialogue with Periphery of Space (1980), a floor-based installation of paper and stones. First displayed in Kobe in 1980, Periphery of Space consisted of a ring of twisted brown paper on the floor, with stones placed at precise intervals inside and outside the enclosure, as well as within the twist of the paper itself.
