Twin exhibitions and symposium being held at Tama Art University

Kishio Suga graduated from the Department of Painting at Tama Art University in 1968 and quickly became established as one of the most progressive artists of his generation.

Tama Art University Art Archive Center (ACC) will be opening the "Kishio Suga Digital Archive: Materials from the Tokyo Gallery + BTAP Collection" to the public in 2024. Starting this year, they are also making available the "Kishio Suga Photographs 35mm Slide Digital Archive."

To commemorate this milestone, the ACC will be exhibiting Suga's unpublished paperworks alongside recent works from the artist's collection and works from the 1970s and related materials from the AAC collection.

菅木志雄（1944–）は、多摩美術大学絵画科（現絵画学科油画専攻）を1968年に卒業し、独自の美術世界を切り拓いてきました。近年、もの派の代表的作家として国際的に活躍し、高い評価を受けています。

AACでは「東京画廊+BTAP所蔵資料菅木志雄デジタルアーカイヴ」を2024年度に公開することができました。今年度からは「菅木志雄撮影 35ミリスライドデジタルアーカイヴ」を公開しています。これを記念して、菅の未発表ペーパーワークを中心に、作家蔵の近作とAAC所蔵の1970年代の作品及び関連資料をともに展覧する機会を設けることになりました。

1枚の紙も「ものであることに変わりはない」と考えている菅が、ユニークな美術思想を一貫して持ち続け、問題意識を深めながら常に新たな地平を開き続けてきたことは広く知られています。今回、2つの展覧会とシンポジウムを通して、作家·菅木志雄の「これまでとこれから」を展望します。
